Flights Easyjet fly to Geneva from a number of UK airports on every day of the week. We have found that the best fares are achieved by booking as soon as they release their flights, particularly for peak weeks.
Peak weeks are Christmas, New Year and February in the winter and Late July and August in the summer. Outside of these times flights can be extremely reasonable!
Flight prices and airport congestion (mayhem?) are at their least on Sundays which is why Chalet Belle Dranse is let for holidays on a Sunday to Sunday basis.
Car Hire No doubt you will be more than aware that it is cheaper to book in advance from the UK rather than wait until you arrive at Geneva.
Easyrentacar is more often than not far better value than renting direct from the major rental companies. Budget, Eurocar, Hertz and others all have desks at Geneva’s arrival hall.
For the best rates we have found that the rental intermediaries such as Holiday autos can be more than competitive particularly the closer it is to your holiday dates when you are looking to book.
If you have not rented cars at Geneva before then you ought to know that it is important to ensure you rent from the Swiss (and not the French) side of the Airport to avoid having to buy an additional permit if you wish to use a Swiss motorway. This makes everything easier as the vast majority of rental companies operate from the Swiss side and it is well worth making sure rather than kicking off your holiday badly by arriving at the wrong desk with lots of luggage in tow.
Driving all the way Definitely possible and done by many. Everyone can claim to do the journey from Calais to St Jean d’Aulps in record times as it’s motorway all the way almost. Even in winter the motorways are pretty much clear of hold-ups and it’s a very easy straightforward drive.
Eight or nine hours seems the norm non-stop with changes of driver. But unless you’re in a hurry there are some fantastic towns and villages to stop off overnight at. And there’s also Burgundy to visit!
It can be the most economical way to do it if there are four people or more.
The Norfolk Line Dover to Dunkirk ferry can often work out far cheaper than the Dover to Calais ferries or the Tunnel. It takes about the same time to cross the Channel and only adds another 20 motorway minutes to your journey. We book it through Direct Ferries. |

With Geneva airport so close it is most common means used. Other possible airports such as Lyons or Chambery are a lot further away. Low cost UK operators fly to Geneva besides the major carriers. Hiring a car at Geneva Airport is easy and is best done in advance from the UK. Alternatively many people drive all the way from their home using the tunnel or ferries.
