Text Box: Summer Activities
Chalet Belle Dranse

If you love the mountains, fresh air and walking then there’s no better place to be.  Spotting deer, wild boar and marmottes besides birds, butterflies and wild flowers is exhilarating.

There are also any number of activities to get involved in.  From mountain biking, white water rafting and parapenting to tennis, swimming and watching the world go by having lunch in the open air outside a village restaurant.

The adjacent Abondance and Samoens valleys, only half an hour away, are beautiful with gentle meadow walks along the valley bottom.

Many ski lifts are opened in July and August giving an alternative way to get to the top and take in the views.

Walking

There are a few gentle walk such as along the river Dranse (which runs below the chalet) into Morzine or down to Seytroux and the “Monk’s Way” from St Jean to Le Biot where there’s a bar to slake the thirst.

But mostly the best walks are up high in the mountains.  There are many which can be started and finished at the Chalet’s front door but you might prefer to drive to a higher start point to minimise the “hard puff” before you get to magnificent views.

If you like stiff walking in North Wales, the Lake District or Scotland then there’s lots of that on your doorstep.  Up and over or around Roc D’Enfer, the highest peak in the area, is a full day walk which gives views of the Chamonix valley and Mont Blanc.

There are many good scale maps in the Chalet  as well as walking books for suggestions.
