Text Box: Summer Activities
Chalet Belle Dranse

If you love the mountains, fresh air and walking then there’s no better place to be.  Spotting deer, wild boar and marmottes besides birds, butterflies and wild flowers is exhilarating.

There are also any number of activities to get involved in.  From mountain biking, white water rafting and parapenting to tennis, swimming and watching the world go by having lunch in the open air outside a village restaurant.

Swimming and Tennis

Morzine has a fantastic outdoor swimming pool with adjacent children’s pool where you can spend all day if you wish.  There’s a restaurant and lots of sun-loungers so take a book!  Almost in front of the pool are many tennis courts.  Nearby the Palais des Sports has an ice rink.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

France’s number one pastime.  The annual Tour de France goes through St Jean and Morzine in June.  There are a number of bike hire shops in Morzine and Les Gets with lots of specially marked and prepared VTT routes for mountain biking all over the valley.  The ski lifts are adapted to take mountain bikes, making it easy to get up high before you start.

Adventure Parks

There are a number, the nearest being in the Morzine woods, with rope ladders and walkways in the trees for children of all ages (adults too!).

Sailing, Windsurfing and “Beach” Water Parks

Lake Geneva is only half an hour away.  There is a fantastic water park at Thonon-les-Bains with slides and all sorts of games for children.  It even has a sandy beach area.  Reports from everyone are that it’s a great day out.  Older people can hire a boat or a windsurfer for the day.  Go and see how the Genevans relax!

White Water Rafting and Kayaking

The River Dranse flowing through the valley into Lake Geneva is perfect for this and there are many companies offering adventurous days.  The Tourist Information Office in St Jean has all the information.

Golf

There several golf courses within reach.  The closest is above Morzine where the views of the mountains and valleys are stunning.  Then there is one at Les Gets which is very close to the outdoor lake for swimming, making it easy for the family to split up for a while.

The course at Evian, overlooking Lake Geneva and about three quarters of an hour away, is highly regarded and entertains professional tournaments each year.
