Restaurants

There are several very good restaurants for daytime and evenings on Rue Docteur Paccard as well as a number of quality hotels in the centre of Chamonix all of which have restaurants open to non-residents.  There are Michelin star restaurants which are worth at least one try-out during your holiday.

When open the five star hotel adjacent to the apartment will have an excellent restaurant.

Supermarkets, Butchers, Grocers, Bakers.

All within a minute or two’s walk make it easy to self cater if you wish.  All are open early enough for quick dash out for fresh pain and milk in the morning before a day’s skiing as well as into the evening if you decide to cater for yourselves and have run out of anything.  Finding them is as easy as anywhere in France as it’s just “follow your nose”.

“Proper Shopping”

There are a full range of shops from haute couture to watches, binoculars, books and art.  Not to mention mountain and ski equipment.  Being a long established town with a year round population means there is the full range that you would expect in any town in any country.

But because Chamonix has been (and still is) a magnet for the wealthy there are shops with the quality to match any international city (so be warned!).  At the minimum there’s a nice evening promenade to be had before wining and dining.

Supermarkets

The nearest supermarket, Champion, is also the main one in the area and is only a few minutes away on the main road towards Morzine.  It will have everything you need from a more than acceptable wine selection and large cheesecounter to tissues and suncream.

As you’re renting a large chalet for your holiday no doubt you intend to look after yourselves for at least some of the time.  If it’s the summer then eating outside in the sunshine will be on the agenda.  You’ll probably want to go out to a restaurant or two at lunchtime or evenings and find a bar occasionally.

If fine food and wine are your passion then there are some excellent restaurants to spend the evening in.  There’s a full range to match any pocket.

Similarly if shopping is a hobby then there’s a good afternoon and evening’s exploring to be done from Chanel to choclatiére.
